Maximizing Your Business Potential

Key Things To Consider Before Creating Your Business Card

When creating a business card, did you know that the aesthetic choices you will make during the process could do more than just make the card nice to look at? They could go a long way towards attracting some positive attention for your brand, thereby helping your business in the best possible way, provided that you follow some basic graphic design tips.

  • Typography: Decide if you want to use serif or sans-serif fonts on the card; the former are generally used for body text and the latter for headings. Don’t pick two different fonts of the same type, as this is messy.
  • Spacing: Ensuring appropriate spacing between letters, words and lines allows the reader to process the information quickly. A basic rule is that the line height should be larger than the font’s point size.
  • Font: Remember that each font has its own vibe and will communicate a different mood. Choose a font and type out some words that you think describe it; if you’re correct, this is the message you will be conveying.
  • Whitespace: More often than not, lots of whitespace is considered as being sophisticated, whilst very little is considered as being cheap. If you don’t have enough whitespace, you will distract the reader.

Another area that is considered highly important to graphic design and business cards is colour. Red, for example, is often associated with love or danger whilst blue is associated with peacefulness or confidence. Keep in mind, however, that you can actually rebrand a colour to suit what you want.
